I’m Andrew Hopkinson, welcome! Nice to meet you via text on a screen. How are you? Good? me? I’m good! Now that the niceties have been sorted out, let’s get down to the (somewhat) interesting part.
I am a 23 year old recent graduate of a Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, with Film & TV as a minor. My design interests span over quite a lot mediums such as typography, branding and strategy design and as the design world changes, so do my interests. Because of this I like to think of myself as some what of a 'Multidisiplinary Designer' (take that title as you will) In addition to this, I also have experience in photography and videography, even briefly running a production company with a mate for a year in which we produced a number of commercial and promotional videos.
Outside of work I love the beach, skating and surfing (even though I may be terrible at it) and am quite an adventurous person. I am big into coffee and craft beer (although I’ll always have a few VB’s in the fridge) but my obsession–outside of design of course–is soccer, specifically the Liverpool Football Club. I am told that I am crazy to be getting up at all hours of the morning to watch the games but I am a very passionate person and this passion spills over into my work.
Communication Design Capstone Program
27/02/2017 - Present
A capstone program at Swinburne University which put gave us real life clients to work with and for. Working for the City Boroondara and in particular Headspace Hawthorn we were tasked to innovate what was already a successful business model. This unit tasked us to work in a group of 3 for the duration of the semester. This was a great learning experience in terms of team work, organisation and delegation and resulted in a High Distinction final mark. Our efforts as a team also lead to further consultation with Headspace Hawthorn after the unit had been completed. This invoked Headspace wanting to take on our presentation and our ideas to implement within the company and the Youth Advisory Group.
iD Collective Design Internship
27/06/2017 - 21/07/2017
A 4 week long internship which I undertook at Public Relations Agency ‘iD Collective’ in St Kilda, Melbourne. iD took on interns in order to cope with the absence of their primary Graphic Designer. The work I took on ranged from publication design to creating art work for interactive activations(one which took place in Melbourne and Sydney). There was a heavy work load in a short amount of time and I think this internship in particular really showed my efficiency in creating quality work within a deadline. Clients I produced work for include: Cadbury, The Good Nut Peanut Butter, Breast Cancer Network Australia, Rokeby Farms, Blackstone Shopping Centres, Northland, HWKR, Will & Steve (The Gourmet Pommies) and New Shanghai.
